On Saturday, March 2, just a few minutes up the road from your new home at the Belmont Lake Preserve NC golf community on the campus of Nash Community College, there will be a celebration of diversity with in the local community as a part of the Rocky Mount International Festival of Cultures.

Starting at 12:00 pm and running until 4:00 pm at the on campus, Brown Auditorium, the Rocky Mount International Festival of Cultures has become an annual favorite among local events. “This festival brings our community together and shows us how our diversity empowers us,” said city of Rocky Mount Director of Human Relations, Archie Jones.

There will be many tastes, sounds, and sights on hand at the Rocky Mount International Festival of Cultures for all to enjoy on March 2. These will include an array of exotic foods for sampling from across the globe, and vendors, who likewise will be selling and showcasing items representing a variety of ethnicities and cultures. In addition, there will be a fashion show and also multi-cultural live music and entertainment to enjoy at the Rocky mount International Festival of Cultures.

Slated to be represented and on display at the Rocky Mount International Festival of Cultures are communities and traditions to include Central American, Middle Eastern, Southeast Asian, African American, and the Hawaii-Saponi Indian Tribe.

Summing up the great community feel of this celebration of diversity, Jones concluded his statement on the official city website saying, “From the food to the fashion and the friendly atmosphere, this event showcases some of the best of our city-the many cultures that call Rocky Mount home.”

On the heels of its grand opening just this past week with some Halloween events and a free show featuring the legendary George Clinton and P-Funk, the spectacular new Rocky Mount Event Center located just minutes from your new home at the NC golf community, Belmont Lake Preserve will be welcoming two big attractions to the venue here in its first full month of operation.

Located downtown at 285 Northeast Main Street, the Rocky Mount Event Center has without question been the talk of the town over the past few weeks as it neared and then held its ribbon cutting and grand opening event. Giving a sneak peek at the world class talent that is sure to start being booked to appear at the arena, there will be a sporting event coming in first, followed by one of R&B’s most decorated artists later in October.

The always family friendly and fun Harlem Globetrotters are the first sporting event to take place at the new Rocky Mount Event Center, as they will bring the athleticism and a lot of laughs to center court on Sunday, November 4 at 4:00 pm. Ticket prices range from $16-55 making any seat in the house very affordable for the whole family to come out and see the game.

On Saturday, November 17, starting at 7:00 pm, will be the first official concert to be held at the Rocky Mount Event Center, with Keith Sweat and Friends taking the stage. Grand Opening Event

The official grand opening of the Rocky Mount Event Center takes place on Thursday, October 25 from 4:00-8:00 pm.The beautiful, new Rocky Mount Event Center is located at 285 North East Main Street in Rocky Mount and will feature several music acts as part of the ceremonies.

There will be free admission and the first 75 people who arrive will receive a free hot dog and soft drink.  The doors will open at 4 p.m. and the program will begin at 4:30. The Master of Ceremonies for the grand opening of the Rocky Mount Event Center will be Christ Hohmann, Chief Meteorologist for WTVD ABC 11. Also on hand will be Congressman G.K. Butterfield and live music will be played by opening acts, The Tams and Deep Fried Funk starting at 5:45 p.m.  The main attraction of the grand opening will be a free concert by the legendary George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic.

Spooktacular Oktoberfest

More family friendly, free fun will be coming to the Rocky Mount Event Center this weekend, as the annual fall Rocky Mount tradition, Spooktacular Oktoberfest event will take place at the new downtown venue on Saturday, October 27 at 4-7 pm. As always, there will be various fun activities for the whole family to enjoy, including, free treat bags to the first 200 kids in costumes and “special guests” that all the kids will enjoy to include: Moana, Paw Patrol-Skye and Marshall, and Captain America Minion. In addition, there will be games with prizes, face painting, a magic show, bounce house, a live DJ, food and carnival style food. For those looking for a scare, there will also be a haunted house attraction also.

After a long, cold winter faded into the warmer months of Spring, it was just a matter of time before the warmth  of the summer sun came around. To many local residents, this means their favorite of all Downtown Rocky Mount Events, the Downtown Live concert series returns. This is just minutes from your new home at  Belmont Lake Preserve  in the heart of downtown Rocky Mount.

The schedule for the 2018 Downtown Live series has been released and it will feature no less than nine weeks of Downtown Rocky Mount Events. Beginning the week of May 24, and running through the week of September 18 these weekly concerts feature some great local talent.

These Downtown Rocky Mount Events take place every other Thursday during that time frame and as start at 6:00 pm. The Downtown Live concert series is held outside of the Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences building, at 270 Gay Street in Downtown Rocky Mount. There will be local food and beverage vendors on site at each of these Downtown Rocky Mount and you can bring your own lawn chairs to set up, as admission as always is free.

Rocky-Mount-Business

Showing the strength of the growing and bustling local business community in Rocky Mount Business, Babington Technology, was one of just 13 small businesses from across the United States recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to receive a grant from the allotted $1.3 million dollars to be part of a project to aid in the reduction of electrical power consumption, reduce the emission of carbon, and lower the price for consumers associated with cookstove combustion technology.

On the EPA’s official website, it was noted that “The 13 businesses we are funding today are producing innovative and creative solutions for our country’s environmental problems,” said Thomas Burke, EPA science advisor and deputy assistant administrator of EPA’s Office of Research and Development. “Small businesses play an integral role in creating technologies that will help ensure a sustainable future for our country.”

The article continued in explaining the grants, saying, “Each of the 13 companies will receive a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract for up to $100,000 to develop their green technology. If Phase I is successful, companies will be eligible to apply for a Phase II contract of up to $300,000 to develop and commercialize their technology for the marketplace.”

A package show coming to town will featuring Atlanta’s top Rhythm and Blues artists and Pat “Mother Blues” Cohen. This is a fast paced and engaging program that I have toured on major festival stages all over the world. This show features an incredible rhythm section and horns. They present a rich and dynamic program that encompasses many blues traditions and R&B.
